Sorry for censoring f*ck in the title and subtitle — I still give a f*ck about getting published.

Recently, I read the book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson for the second time. Because it was so effective in a controversial way, I had to read it again and tell you something about it.

Fuck. Now it’s okay to write uncensored.

Since I do give a fuck about the message I’m about to convey, I will start by telling you what this is about. Because when people imagine “not giving a fuck”, they usually create a misconception on its meaning, different from the one Mark writes about.

You probably think it means living…

That you can apply right now

As a writer and a reader, bearing different hobbies and a full-time job, I know it can be hard to find time to read an article about writing tips, especially when there are plenty of them out here. Also, you sometimes just lack the patience to sit still and read something throughout the end. So, this time, I decided to keep it short and give you five concise behavioral tips that you should consider as a writer.

1. Avoid judging others

You’re not a judge. And even if you are, you have the time and place to practice. So it’s not up to you…

Unless you do something about it

Afew months ago, we were going through, let’s call it, a wave of restrictions in Portugal. Note that I didn’t say lockdown because we were not locked in our houses at that time, and I believe all sorts of establishments were open, just as frontiers were not closed, etc. But general health-wise restrictions were being applied as the bare-reasonable minimum by force of the circumstances.

Anyway, I was looking for a gaming chair to set up my home office, already thinking about the wearing, increased hours I would have to spend sitting down in remote working. Plus writing and whatnot…

On a regular basis at least

I just finished writing a short story and, I realized for the first time: I will never write for an active audience. That could mean many things, but for me, it basically revolves around two simple, identifiable reasons. I can’t, and I don’t want to be writing for an active audience. And by — active — I mean the online audience from all around the world that can actively read, comment, and share my work almost in real-time.

What do you mean by “can’t”? And “don’t want to”??? Then why should I be reading this in the first place?

You’re…

But maybe everything else is

“Facebook is for old people!” I hear a 10-year-old girl casually whine when someone asks her if she has Facebook.

And I hear it again.

… and once more from a, let’s say third kid — yes; because you have to hear it a few times to stop thinking that the spoiled little creature little knows about life — and only then it leaves me wondering: Is Facebook that old-fashioned that I’m old for using it?

Well, I don’t even use Facebook that much, I say excusingly to myself. And that conclusion is followed by relief, but just then I…

A series about manual exploitation

These penetration testing writeup series are about owning HackTheBox machines through manual methods like you would have to do for an OSCP examination. I will try to avoid Metasploit the best I can, even if it is only to set-up a Meterpreter listener.

These are not simple writeups like those you can find anywhere on the Internet. I will share thoughts, ideas, emotions, failures, and successes so that you can feel part of a journey. It should be as fun to read for you as it was for me to hack these boxes. And I want you to ride along…

Do you know the fruit? What about what you don’t know?

Did you ever wonder how many apples are eaten around the world every day? What about which countries consume the most apples? Or how many apple trees get planted every year? Those could be some interesting statistics for some. But what about asking yourself about the apple itself. Why are apples so famous? And where does that fame comes from?

I’ve been resting with this idea of an article for more than two years, but I never took the initiative to start thinking and writing. …

Your family should be a priority, but you are too.

According to Princess Diana, “family is the most important thing in the world”, and she was not the only one saying it. You can find a lot of people, famous or not, who tell you that family should be on top of your priorities and that you should always sacrifice for your family. That can be right to some extent, but it’s important to understand that “family” can have different interpretations for each one of us, and the way one feels towards his family is different. Some blood families may even deserve to be forgotten.

Because we all relate to…

Because if you don’t truly think for yourself, no one ever will

Writing on Medium is different than writing anywhere else. You must follow certain criteria if you want to succeed. At the same time, you are invited to keep your voice intact — be true to yourself. Furthermore, Medium challenges you to write about the subjects you are interested in and that’s when you get to develop a fundamental skill.

Critical thinking.

My first touch with this platform started by July 2018. I chose Medium to write my first article, by chance, but only because I had noticed it’s growing popularity. I had to intention to adhere to the growth. It…
